Update from Monhegan Energy Info – August 24, 2017

Update written by Nate Johnson, MAV Community Outreach Coordinator (08/24/17):

MAV continues to be busy with environmental and permitting efforts to inform the Department of Energy’s (DOE’s) National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) review. Below is an update from DOE on the NEPA process and timeline.

The University of Maine continues to work with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) in support of DOE’s National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) review.  DOE is responsible for reviewing and evaluating all information prepared by the University of Maine, subcontractors, and/or other agencies prior to this information being shared with the public to ensure all information meets DOE expectations and requirements.  DOE anticipates the draft EA being made available to the public in Spring/Summer 2018.  This schedule may change as work progresses so please check the DOE project webpage [ https://www.energy.gov/node/2053718 ] for updates.

In addition, DOE may share applicable reports and study results prior to the draft EA release to support required consultations including the National Historic Preservation Act section 106 process.  DOE will ensure this information is also posted on the above referenced webpage to ensure all parties have access to the same information unless the information is protected from disclosure by federal statute due to its sensitivity.

We look forward to continuing to update you on this process and the overall project as it progresses.
